What to Expect

Pricing

  • $ 200 Mobilization fee.

  • 3 hours minimum per job, $90 an hour.

  • If the project is over 30 miles away billed $1 per mile.

  • $50 for damaged/broken blades, $30 for used-up dull blades.

Pricing breakdown.

  • Hourly time begins as soon as we touch the first log and ends when we get our hands off the last log.

  • Set up and tear down of the mill along with lunch and mechanical failure does not count as billable time.

  • Changing blades counts as billable time because it is part of the milling process.

  • Moving logs and lumber around counts as billable time. So have everything set up as per the picture below and bring a few extra hands to help with moving/stacking lumber in order to save some money. Fresh-cut lumber can be really heavy.

  • Blades will dull up faster if the wood has foreign substances in it. (mud, metal, wires, barbwire, bullets, etc.) clean logs promote blade longevity and help you save money.

Drying your freshly cut lumber is IMPORTANT

Now stacking and drying the lumber is just as important as cutting it in the first place. If not done right, you can get really expensive and rotten firewood. To get straight and even lumber make sure to follow some guidelines on stacking it correctly. Air drying uses same-size cut spacers called “stickers” which can be any piece of wood ripped down into 1”x 1” sticks. Lumber has to be sticker-stacked asap because in a few short days staining of the lumber may begin. Sticker-stacking should be done by the clients in order to save money.

Jobsite Preparation before sawmill arrival

  • In order to be as cost-effective as possible please have the milling site set up per the pictures. Once we set up the mill and start handling the logs, billable time will start. Less moving we have to do means less time spent on the clock.

  • Our sawmill is 20’ long and 6’ wide, so a 50’ by 20’ firm and relatively level area should be good for work. Please refer to the pictures of the desired layout.

  • Logs should be as follows: No longer than 16’ and no wider than 3’ all limbs must be removed and all foreign items must be removed.

Clean up

  • Once we finish the job you will have yourself a beautiful stack of lumber cut to your requests, along with a pile of waste (unusable slabs/bark) and sawdust.

  • Sawmilled lumber is unfinished and rough sawn, so further processing might be required for some of your DIY tasks.
